Right now, I live in a room that’s about 200 sq ft. In an apartment I share with 4 other people. I pay $825/month. All utilities are include except for internet which is around $15 / month. Laundry machines are coin operated, and it costs $3 a week to do laundry for me. I don’t have a car, so I don’t have to worry about car payments, car insurance, or gas. I don’t go out that much on the weekends, and if I do, I don’t go to bars. I’m pretty frugal with my spending. I cook at home as often as possible. I say I spend around $40 a week on groceries. I’m always finding ways to reduce or cut back on my expenses. So, how much a month do you think I should be making to be live in my situation?
Hey, Matt. It seems like your expenses are about the same as mine except I rarely have to pay anything for transportation. I could buy a bus pass for $55 a month, but that’s not necessary since I don’t ride the bus that often. For me, laundry is $1 to wash, and $2 to dry. I also save money by buying basic things, like toilet paper, in bulk. Oh, I also have pay back around $35,000 in student loans. I don’t have to pay anything back right now since I’m not working full time, but I know my interest will add up. I’m not worrying about that right now. I have this side job that pays $15/hr, but it’s very sporadic, and not very reliable. I basically get work on a day to day basis, so I never know how much money I’ll make in a certain week. I was thinking I could get by on at least $1500 / month. What do you think?
